Aromas of raspberries, cr_me de cassis, cigar wrapper and loamy soil introduce the 2020 La Tour Carnet, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and polished wine that's more harmonious and better balanced than Magrez's Grands Ch_nes. This large estate has eaten up many of the Haut-M_doc's non-classified growths over the past decade to arrive at a surface area of over 130 hectares today.

シャトー ラ トゥール カルネ [2018] CH.La Tour Carnet 赤ワイン 750ml
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 la Tour Carnet is a little closed and broody to begin, slowly unfurling to offer glimpses at notions of tar, star anise, damp soil and tapenade with a core of stewed plums and boysenberries, plus a waft of cassis. The medium-bodied palate has lovely freshness and bags of savory-laced black fruits framed by rounded tannins, finishing with a lively lift.
The deep garnet-purple colored 2017 la Tour Carnet features Black Forest cake, blackcurrant cordial, earth and bouquet garni with wafts of lavender. The palate is medium-bodied, elegantly played, fresh and chewy with an herbal lift on the finish.

The 2014 La Tour Carnet was a wine that I tasted last year from bottle, so why not
give it another whirl to remind readers of its quality. There is a lot going on
aromatically with plenty of boisterous black cherry and raspberry fruit, maintaining
that floral element that I discerned last year. The palate is medium-bodied with fine
tannin, perhaps the oak on this bottle a little more conspicuous than before, but
that will be subsumed with two or three years in bottle.

The Chateau La Tour Carnet 2014 is a blend of 68% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon
and 2% Petit Verdot picked between 22 September and 23 October, aged in 30% new
oak. This feels more precocious and concentrated on the nose compared directly
with the Grand Chenes with small black cherries and blueberry fruit that is nicely
defined, quite racy and lively. The palate is full-bodied, dense and quite muscular,
a pleasant saline tang coming through towards the finish. There is more presence
here than the Grands Chenes. Tasted four or five times, a couple showing a
tad "foursquare" perhaps, but otherwise a decent if not spectacular contribution
to the 2014 vintage.
Part of the empire of Bernard Magrez, this blend of 61% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc is a sleeper of the vintage in 2012. Its excellent dense ruby/purple color, sweet cassis, black cherry fruit, supple tannins, medium to full body and attractive, long finish make for an impressive wine that should drink nicely for 10-15 years. It’s already accessible. This is another wine that performed dramatically better from the bottle than from barrel tastings.
